Description
Description
The Tilta Mirage Matte Box is a lightweight, modular matte box system designed for modern filmmakers, content creators, and professional production crews. Combining an ultra-lightweight construction with flexible configuration options, Mirage provides an efficient and accessible solution for cinema, DSLR, and mirrorless camera setups.
Lightweight & Versatile Design
Mirage features a standard 95mm clamp-on backing, allowing it to mount directly onto compatible cinema lenses such as ARRI Ultra Primes and Leica Summicron-C lenses. It can also be adapted for use with a wide range of DSLR and mirrorless lenses, making it suitable for everything from compact creator setups to professional cinema rigs.
Its aerodynamic body features integrated vents designed to reduce wind resistance and improve stability when filming fast-moving subjects. An optional protective front element can also be added for additional filter protection.
Compact Circular Filter System
The Mirage introduces a compact circular filter system that is significantly lighter and smaller than traditional 4×5.65 filters. A circular Mirage filter weighs approximately one-quarter of a traditional 4×5.65 filter, helping reduce the overall weight of the camera rig.
Inspired by cartridge-style filter systems used in the film industry, filters can be quickly inserted and removed without relying on conventional screw-on mounting. The system supports a variety of creative filters, including star patterns, multi-colored streaks, anamorphic flares, Black Pro-Mist, White Pro-Mist, and other special-effect filters.
Variable ND Module
An optional Variable ND (VND) Module provides adjustable neutral density control for changing lighting conditions. Developed in collaboration with optical manufacturers, the module uses PL + CPL technology to maintain accurate color reproduction throughout its adjustment range.
The VND provides adjustment from ND 0.3 to ND 2.7 with built-in hard stops designed to prevent X-pattern cross shadows. For wide-angle lenses, ND 0.3–2.1 is recommended, while ND 2.1–2.7 is intended for focal lengths beyond 35mm to help minimize vignetting.
Wireless Motorized ND Control
The Variable ND Module can also be paired with a compatible micro motor for wireless ND adjustment, allowing exposure to be controlled remotely during filming. The standard wireless range reaches up to 100 meters and can be extended with an optional wireless signal amplifier for applications such as aerial cinematography.
The Mirage Motor can be controlled using the compatible Tilta Wireless Controller or Tilta Nucleus Series Wireless Follow Focus Systems. The Wireless Controller mounts through a NATO rail and can control compatible Nucleus M, Nucleus Nano, and Mirage wireless motors.
When using the VND Kit, a compatible Nucleus Nano Motor Mounting Bracket can secure a Nucleus Nano motor directly to the VND module for wireless density adjustment.
Expandable Modular System
The modular Mirage system supports a variety of configurations and optional accessories. Additional stackable 4×5.65 filter trays can be installed for more advanced filtration setups, while optional filter protection accessories can help prevent scratches and reduce unwanted reflections.
This modular approach allows filmmakers to configure the matte box according to individual production requirements and expand the system as their setup develops.
Built for Modern Video Production
Whether used by a solo camera operator or a professional production crew, the Tilta Mirage Matte Box combines lightweight construction, flexible filtration, creative filter options, and optional wireless Variable ND control. Its adaptable design makes it suitable for productions ranging from compact mirrorless setups to professional cinema camera rigs.
Warning: Do not power the motor through USB-C while the 14500 Power Supply is attached when using the Motorized VND Kit.
